I began to explore design while in the Fine Arts program at the University of British Columbia, as a student of Roy Kiyooka and Robert Young, and as apprentice to naval architect Richard Johnson between 1980 and 1984. Since then, I have worked professionally as both industrial and graphic designer, and as art director for several magazines and arts organizations.

FRONT MAGAZINE
Editor and Art Director,
Western Front Artist-run Centre, Vancouver, 1998 - 2010. FRONT Magazine was 48 page interdisciplinary arts publication published by the Western Front between 1975 and 2013, with a circulation of 7000 copies, distributed free in Vancouver and to subscribers and members in more than 50 countries. FRONT published curated artists projects in print, essays and served as program guide for the Western Front.

Scotiabank Dance Centre, Vancouver, 2011 - 2020. Dance Central began as a membership newsletter and developed into an online magazine that presents conversations with contemporary dance artists, designers and presenters.

I apprenticed with naval architect Richard Johnson and worked between 1980 to 1985 on commercial craft ranging from high speed aluminium monohulls to SWATH vehicles, and a two year research project with the Canadian Coast Guard and US naval architect Howard Apollonio to develop a high speed inshore lifeboat.

Co-founded in 1987 with Claude St-Pierre and Bill Wong in Montreal, Sedna developed the Agloolik One Habitat, an underwater hotel for one hundred occupants, to be constructed in collaboration with MIL Marine Industries of Quebec and Lloyds of London and installed in a Marine Sanctuary on the coast of Venezuela. 1987-1990
